river fishing in TN

admin answers:

I am not familiar with that area but at this time of year i find that the trout are fairly inactive, they tend to stay near the bottom of the water column, so i would try to target this area most. I am not sure how fast the river you will be fishing so if you will be fishing a slow running river, i would reccomend bait such as power eggs or worms that float, on like a 1-2 foot leader with a large bell weight.

Put the bell weight on your mainline, with a bead between your weight and your swivel so that you line does not tangle. If you do not want to fish this method, i would recommend fishing live baits low in the water near the bottom of the river. I would not recommend anything that spins as in order to make this lure run properly, you have to make it move fast but trout will not chase many fast objects at this time of year.

Trout do not want to expend much energy in order to gain food so the use of live bait of food like baits, not lures are recommended. I would avoid using bobbers unless you can see many fish surfacing and jumping near you. If you plan on using lures i would recommend very small minnow imitations moved very slowly near the bottom.

The main thing to remember is that trout aren’t going to chase for food at this time of year so you need to bring the food to them and make them seem and appealing as possible, stay close to the bottom, and use lots of scent to attract. Good luck and tight lines.

Does any 1 have some helpfull fishing tips for trout.?

admin answers:

Sure… Smaller streams will be easier. Places where there are planters are easier. Wild fish are tougher, but more attractive. Trout need 3 things… Oxygene, Cover and food. They will be holding in water that can provide them these things… Generally in at least a foot of water, usually more. Fish will be found on seams, where a faster current meets a slower current. The slower current means the fish doesn’t have to work as hard, and the faster current brings more food by.

Trout need cooler water… They won’t survive in water in the mid 70′s.

Trout are normally at or near the bottom of the stream bed, so you need to get whatever you are fishing with near the bottom. You’ll snag up, but that’s where the fish are.

Any hot tips On trout fishing?

admin answers:

In trout fishing, there are some factors that need to be considered in order to have a successful catch.

1. For trout fishing, the leader should not be greased. It will not sink far enough to cause any difficulty when picking the line and lure from the water, but if it is allowed to float; it will cast a shadow on the bottom of the stream which may scare the trout.

2. The trout is one of the fishes that are usually secured through the use of the dry fly. For trout, the current as well as the pools should be fished. It may sometimes be a bit difficult to keep the fly from sinking or dragging because of the various conditions of the current, but this is a matter that the angler will have to figure out for himself.

3. It is not good practice when fishing for trout to fish directly upstream so the flies, line, and leader will float directly over fish. The fisherman should make the cast from one side of the stream so the fly will only float over the fish.

4. It is important to make the first cast the best. A feeding trout will usually strike the first lure presented if it is cast so that it will float over his private domain. The angler should never fail to fish the lower end of the pool first even if the trout are rising in the middle or upper end.

5. Trout are sometimes very moody or selective and will try the patience of any angler; hence, possibly a fly with less hackle will do the trick or it may be necessary to use a spent-wing fly or a fan wing.

admin answers:

Remember that 99%+ of the trout in Pennsylvania are stocked fish.
This would mean they are neither overly wary or difficult to catch.
Gold colored lures seem to be prevalent, with silver coming in a close second for time proven success.
